Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five where he loved participating in numerous card games at a young age. He discovered himself getting very aggressive in the above-mentioned card games as he was competing against his dad. After graduating from high school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a little while and moved away to New York City to play some serious chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were difficult as he played countless hours and don’t win a majority of the time. He made some additional cash by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He believed he might improve his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He made an effort to get more rest and focus more on the game.

The definite improvement in his abilities happened when he began playing at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best gamblers would frequently challenge each other. He had access into a few of the foremost minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard would tweak his cunning thinking abilities. He used these strategy ideas in the game of No-Limit hold’em.

Howard also helped his sister Annie Duke master poker. She was a superb student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper choice. Howard Lederer told Annie to move out to Las Vegas and compete in the World Series of Poker competition. She is one of the best women players the poker world has ever seen. Howard moved to Sin City in 1993 and participated in cash games for the subsequent decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
