Internet Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
Thursday, 11. February 2016
Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the last table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best players in the world. While playing web poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently competes in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all in. I know Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the min takes most of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I believe television can alter our view of the real world every now and then. The best players in the world could be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in big stakes omaha hold’em and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in money games?
