Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative feedback from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing love for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is very abashed about his success. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
