Friday, 19. December 2025

Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse comments from other people kill his ambition of being one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always strives to improve.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
