Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five in which he loved gambling on various card games at a young age. He discovered himself getting very aggressive in the above-mentioned card games while competing against his father. After graduating from secondary school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a little while and relocated to New York City to play some big-time chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s first two years were difficult as he would play many hours and do not win a majority of the time. He made some extra cash by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he possibly could better his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He made an effort to acquire more rest and focus attention more on poker.
The actual improvement in his game began when he started wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest gamblers would regularly challenge each other. He had access into a number of the foremost minds in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would tweak his cunning thinking skills. Howard applied these strategy ideas to the game of NL hold’em.
Howard Lederer also helped his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was an excellent student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the correct choice. Howard told Annie to move out to Las Vegas and compete in the WSOP tournaments. Annie is one of the greatest women players the poker world has ever seen. Howard Lederer relocated to Sin City in 1993 and competed in money games for the subsequent decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard decided to play more tournaments.
