Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative comments from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
