Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five in which he liked taking part in numerous card games when he was young. He found himself getting very competitive in these particular card games while playing his dad. After graduating from high school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a little while and headed to New York to compete in some big-time chess. While playing chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were rough as he would play many hours and fail to win most times. He earned some additional money by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he might boost his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He brought about an attempt to acquire more sleep and concentrate even more on the game.

The real advancement in his abilities happened when he started gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best players would often challenge one another. He was able to access a number of the best players in chess. With their assistance, Howard would tweak his logical thinking techniques. Howard used these strategic concepts in the game of No-Limit holdem.

Howard Lederer also assisted his sister Annie Duke master poker. Annie was a great student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the correct decision. He told Annie to move out to Vegas and compete in the WSOP tournaments. She is one of the strongest female players the poker world has ever seen. Howard Lederer headed to Las Vegas in 1993 and participated in money games for the successive decade. When the WPT gained popularity, he decided to participate in more tournaments.
